"I write, erase, rewrite,
Erase again, and then
A poppy blooms "
-
Tachibana Hokushi (1665-1718)

My Assignment one was to be inspired by the haiku above to represent basic design skills in the form of 3 different posters. The first one of being geometric, the second a movie poster and the last being a storyboard. The skills I would use to create these posters include contrast, hierarchy, alignment, symmetry and etc.

ASSIGNMENT  1

Poster 1

The instructions for poster one was to create a poster that was black and white. While only using geometric shapes. The black triangles represent each failure that a person can go through until the find success. In the case of this poster success is represented as the crisp white circles at the bottom of the trail. Representing the time that it can take to become successful. The change in white and black add contrast. As well as the shapes. Proximity is shown with the closeness of the triangles. The scale and size of each individual geometric shape represent the scale of the failure and let down.

ASSIGNMENT 1

Poster 2

This is a movie poster that is design from my inspired Haiku. I wanted to incorperate some geometric shapes form my first poster and adding continuity for my posters. I used contrast in colour to make the movie poster to catch the viewers eye. I used hierarchy in the textural placement and size. Allowing the title 'PERSEVERANCE' to be an interest point for the audience. Then moving to the main image in the middle of the screen.

ASSIGNMENT 1

Poster 3 - Storyboard

My storyboard follows a young woman and her journey to successful in her career in writing. I choose to keep this storyboard mostly black and white. As it would add contrast when I add the red. Such as in my last poster. The first three images are an introduction to the character and setting. In the second row I have added contrast in with the red colour, as in this three scenes we can see the start of her work and failure. The third row shows the struggle of how constant  failure can have an effect on an individual can see themselves. Shown by the hierarchy of her face and the contrast of the red paper. The last row shows the final product from perseverance and leaves the audience interested at the end by showing the interview room that she is in.
